Russell was born in California, moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1964. He attended the University of Arizona where he was a student poet. After the university he entered the food industry, first working as a retail meat cutter and later as a chef. Moved to Almaty, Kazakhstan in 1992 to work as an executive chef for a hotel. He started teaching English in 2003. Currently he is a full time Lecturer in the Language Center of the Kazakhstan Institute of Economics, Management and Strategic Research.

Hi Russell enjoyed yr rave about things that are things and poetry that is about things but not utterly obsessed with things/Dart was a fine piece of writing and I envy you yr speaking of the poem/I hate my voice and always get someone else to read my poems at launches/Regards Lee Kwo/
Lee. I would genuinely LOVE to hear you speak your work. If not you them someone of your choice. Russell Ragsdale has a voice like Yogi the Bear. Sort of a rumble from the depths. I like his voice which sounds so much better than mine. If you want to have someone read your stuff then let me know and we will invite them on. Cheers.
