you try to get in my jeans
although you say you don't like what's in my genes

although I have learned how to flex
the tears shed have left behind flecks

they say you should thank your enemies
for the lessons they taught you--bitch, please

guys like these taught me to see
only the ugly in and outside of me

I'd sooner thank my cat
for the hairball left on the mat

I'm no longer in the game
thanks but no thanks all the same

~cie~

Write a thankful poem.

notes
I just finished writing a new chapter for my current WIP, The Key of Eidolon, in which I tell a story that, while fictional, is based on real events in my own life. You can read the chapter on LBRY for 15 LBC (approximately $0.45) from this link:

Or you can wait and see if Reedsy approves the chapter, which I just uploaded yesterday. They usually do approve my work, but sometimes it can take a few days to appear.

Either way, if you read it and you like it, maybe share it around. I'm trying to build an audience sometime in this lifetime.

The story features a young woman named Claire who is based on the person I was in my teens. Claire is hung up on a jerk named Valentino, who eventually takes advantage of her. Claire attempts suicide and may never regain consciousness.

I could easily have ended up like Claire. I did attempt suicide and for my efforts was exposed to the tender mercies of the mental health system back in 1980 when I was 16 years old. I was treated like a pile of garbage--strike that, I think they treated their garbage better. There were a couple of compassionate people, but they were the exception rather than the rule. I resolved that I would make damn sure I died before I ever went back into that fucked system, and I have kept my promise.

I no longer let guys like Valentino--or any other guys with non-platonic goals--anywhere near me. I want nothing to do with that whole game. I am not as vulnerable as Claire or my former self anymore because I have enough respect for myself that I will not be fucked with, fucked over, or fucked under. However, the scars remain, and they will always be there.

A Poetry Society Poet - Elyse Thomas

Of all the labels applied by humankind, the ones that divide us unnaturally into 'being' black or white of whatever shade our skin consists of; of all the nation-states we are meant to be of, there is one that is both natural and undeniable and that one should be celebrated. Culture. Wherever we settle as we grow, as we evolve, no matter what shade you are there is bountiful creativity at work as we move together, as we humans join up the dots. That creativity includes language, art and lifestyle. This poem by Elsye Thomas proves the point.

Hold Me Again

. . All poems are copyright of the poet. Permission for this poet to post their work here has been granted by blog owner. All rights remain with the individual poet and their respective publisher.

I wish that it was possible
to ask you to come hold me now
to feel your kiss upon my brow

our love was once unstoppable
or at least so it seemed to me
back when you set my spirit free

I try to do what's practical
but there's no way I can forget
you were the best that I've had yet

back then our love felt tropical
but over time your heart went cold
I wish I'd never been so bold

my methods are not tactical
I am no good at trickery
you would easily see through me

a raging stream not crossable
I see you on the other side
now I just want to run and hide

you once made my heart feel so full
but suspicion and jealousy
drove you to pull away from me

our love had a magnetic pull
but my dark heart could not believe
that you could give yourself to me

if there but were a crucible
where I could melt your frozen heart
I'd never again let us part

is it in some way plausible
that we could work to fix our love
and once again be hand in glove

your love for me untraceable
I wish I had not let you go
I love you more than you can know

Cressida de Nova: Carpe Diem # 1840

Cressida de Nova: Carpe Diem # 1840: fragile beauty the smooth brown shell of an egg  a perfect shape cranberries covered with sugar the tinkle of reindeer bells christmas here ...

A very pretty poem that I wanted to share with all of you.

Also a stark reminder that I have no idea what I'm doing and incapable of following instructions. I saw the "Troiku" prompt, and my crap brain immediately said "Aha! Tanka!" Which is what I wrote for the prompt, because, hey, not doing things right is what I do!

I should be back this weekend with a new poem of my own. To be honest, I completely forgot about it. I have had my car in the shop multiple times this month and had to reschedule my psych exam for disability determination twice. I finally got the exam done. Three things are clear:

I'm depressed, I have PTSD, and I don't have dementia.

None of this means that social security will approve me. Most of the things that I have a possibility of being approved for are physical, but that still doesn't mean that they will.

I am working with a lawyer, which may work in my favor.

Anyway, that is why I was MIA this last Sunday. I should be back this week.

the things that people say to me
always come off contradictory
your imagination is certainly flexible
but your credentials are hardly credible

you're a walking psychological disorder
whose house has never been in order
the anarchy in your brain
can only be described as insane

to expand on our point of view
you are chaos through and through
it's hardly a stretch to say
that you should be locked away

oh, but you're an imaginative little tart
they say with soulless smiles and no heart
all saccharine and lies
that cause me to roll my eyes

they look at me with disdain
as if I have no brain
then try to ply me with false compliments
their bullshit makes no sense

I stopped playing by the rules
because I found that rules are for fools
since I do nothing right anyway
I may as well do things my way

more or less
that's the first step
that I should take to start
the process of rebooting me
use meditation to rejuvenate
attempting to reboot the process of healing
healing the scar tissue deep within me
heal what has started to decay
you can't heal what's rotting
scars never fade
remaining
