Where did you find that?
I have plenty of sheet music but that is a cracker.
You'll be wowing me with Jessie Mathews next!
Can I take a copy?

Kipper D>>>Fill your boots, help youself. I found it on the internet having heard her sing on Desmond Carrington's radio show.

Hi Kippers D. Trust CJ and Google "Image" searches. Bet you find at least 100,000 hits on Jessie Mathews.

Doctor FTSE said...

Just tried it! 159,000 hits at 10.16 a.m. today on Jessie Matthews . . . c'mon CJ! Post one for Kippers and me! Awfy pretty, wasn't she?

Chaps,

All I remember of Jessie Matthews is Mrs. Dales Diary. That is the same lady isn't it?

There are quite a few clips on YouTube also.
Will dig out some music.
It was the very same CJ. She was also in films as well as a singer.

You're right, CJ. Singer Jessie Matthews was reincarnated as diarist Mrs.Dale in BBC's "Mrs. Dale's Diary" She was forever worrying about Jim . .

Jim was a doctor. Which reminds me of this awful joke. (Depends on the idea that all doctor's are hypochondriacs)

Doctor Jim comes home from the surgery after a long day's consulting.
Mrs. Dale "Oh darling! You're back!"
JIm (clutching himself) "My back! My back! What's wrong with it!"

Byeeee!

I have to say that I used to listen to Mrs Dales Diary and even remember Jim, her husband. Funny thing is, and it doesn't hit you until you have children, that a great many actors and actresses have had careers stretching back for years and the current embodiment is not the sum total of their working lives.

Take Desmond Carrington for examlpe. Now a DJ on Radio Two and has been for twenty years. I remember when he ascted in Emergency Ward Ten. Cannot for the life of me remember who the younger Doctor was though!

Likewise . . Kenneth Horne of "Beyond our Ken" and "Round the Horne" - fronted the wonderful "Much Binding In The Marsh" during and after WW2 along with Dickie Murdoch and Sam Costa.
June Whitfield - still contributing to the long-running "Last of the Summer Wine" - was Ron's girl-friend "Eth" in "Take It From Here", another radio comedy of the 50's. "Ron" was played by Dick Bentley who was still performing in the late 70's when he appeared in episodes of "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em". Bentley succumbed to Alzheimers . . sadly ironic, because "Ron" sounded like he was totally doolally back in the 50's. And anyone remember Anna Massey as the gorgeous girlish redhead in the cult "Peeping Tom" in the early 60's?

I just looked up the cast of Emergency and the young doctor I think was played by John Alderton who went on to do Please Sir.
I never used to watch it or listen to the Archer's . Now Round The Horne was soemthing else altogether - a wonderful radio show and still funny today!

Doctor FTSE said...

John Alderton later appeared in "My Wife Next Door" with Hannah Gordon. (And didn't she turn up in the very last "One Foot in the Grave" when she slew Victor Meldrew in a tragic RTA?)

Russell CJ Duffy said...

No, it wasn't John Alderton but a tall, waspish actor who went on o star in a TV detective series later. (I was very young!)

Doctor FTSE said...

CJ - Which part wasn't played by John Alderton? According to WIKI he appeared in Emergency Ward 10, Please Sir and (in 1972) with Hannah Gordon in My Wife Next Door.

Doc F>>>The particular Docotor from Ward 1o that I remeber wasn't John Alderton. I know him and respect both him and Pualine Collins. This chap was older than John Alderton, thinner, as I recall, taller and went on to another ITV show as a Detective. I will have to see if I can find a picure or name for him. I tend to think he would have been the star of the show or at least a majot character in Ward 10.

Doctor FTSE said...

Sorry, CJ. Out of sequence with your comments. Thought you were saying Alderton wasn't in "My Wife Next Door"
