In Dreams

. . All poems are copyright of the poet. Permission for this poet to post their work here has been granted by blog owner. All rights remain with the individual poet and their respective publisher.

I'm recycling a poem originally published on 3 November 2020. Apologies for missing my appointed rounds during the last two weeks. I'm working on multiple projects including formatting my forthcoming poetry book, December Mood.

I have finally been approved for disability. I now need to visit with an accountant and I need to call Medicaid. It would be just like the welfare system in the U.S. to screw me by proclaiming that I'm getting "too much money" from SSDI to continue getting Medicaid. The cutoff for Medicaid is $1100 a month and SSDI is going to be giving me $1300 per month. If I have to get insurance, the SSDI payment will be reduced to $900 per month because insurance is damn expensive.

Anyway, here's the poem.

Write a dream poem, a nightmare poem, or both.

This poem was inspired by my favorite Beyonce song, Sweet Dream.

you know its the notes

I am entire buckets of trash when it comes to making shape poems. I can make three kinds of shape poems: Triangles, diamonds, and funnels. So, from now on, when someone says; "shape poem," I'm doing text art. I may also be entire buckets of trash when it comes to text art, but I don't think my text art rates quite as many trash buckets as my attempts at shape poems.

It's probably obvious that the "space oddity" line is an homage to David Bowie.

I created this poem for OctPoWriMo 2020. It is going to be included in my third poetry volume, December Mood, which will be published on my 56th birthday this year. That's the day after Valentine's Day, which shall henceforth be known as The Day of the Resting Bitch Face That Never Rests. Get ready for it!

notes
I'll keep this simple. I was shocked and saddened to learn about the death of Chadwick Boseman from colon cancer. He was a truly decent and kind person. While fighting cancer himself, he took the time to visit young cancer patients and inspire them not to give up.

The world lost a truly noble spirit with Chadwick's passing, and it is appropriate to grieve this loss. However, it is also appropriate to celebrate the positive effect he had on all whose lives he touched. He was a positive role model for all the world to look up to.

The Hokku (three-line stanza) is © Kyoshi Takahama (1874-1958). The Ageku (two-line stanza) was written by me.

I am well to the northeast of where the above image was taken, but there are wildfires all over the state. We are surrounded by haze.

I will likely never publish this work in any collection. But who knows for sure?

Ornery Poetry Sunday: Bully Is As Bully Does

Image by Andrew Martin from Pixabay

I don't know who needs to hear this today
But if you think bullying a bully
The way the bully bullies his victims
Using the same cruel words as he uses
You have just become a bully yourself

I am feeling quite heartbroken today, close to suicidal. I feel that my work is worthless as am I. But I will try to believe and will keep going just in case things can improve somehow.

I wish you all the best.

Ornery Poetry: The Magician

Free Use Image copyright Willgard on Pixabay

In dreams of magic in worlds beyond
While you run free through colorful lands
Have a care not to fall for the deception
Of the Dark Pharaoh’s sleight of hand
For all your willpower and self-reliance
May be but a contrivance
When the Dark Pharaoh pretends to be your friend
And he fills your ears with what you want to hear
Your imagination will be your undoing if you succumb to his wooing
And you are dragged down in the darkness
Magician, beware the deception
Of the Dark Pharaoh’s shriveled black heart
Magician, beware the deception

Of the weavings of the Dark Pharaoh’s art.

Greetings, fellow poetic types. This poem is excerpted from one of Team Netherworld's current WIPs, "Toys in the Attic." It is attributed to the fictional band Blue Mondays. The Dark Pharaoh is an allusion to Nyarlathotep, the trickster god of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos.

An excerpt from this latest chapter of Toys in the Attic appears here, as well as information on how to purchase the full chapter.

The Ornery Old Lady's Poetry Archive: Rain

I wish it would rain
Gloomy day with gray haze
Like the not quite sorrow in my brain

The sky won't cry
Neither will I
Guess neither of us have it in us to try

I have too much
But not enough
Too much trouble
Not enough of the right stuff

I wish it would rain
Wash away my weariness for just a while
I wish the sky would cry
So I wouldn't have to.

And Now the Notes:

I'm combining Weekend Writing Warriors and Ornery Poetry Sunday. I've uploaded both of my poetry compilations in PDF format to the Poetry of the Netherworld Channel on LBRY. These compilations are also available in Kindle format, but the PDF versions cost approximately half what the Kindle versions do. Visit the Poetry of the Netherworld channel here.

I highly recommend getting a LBRY account as an alternate venue for sharing your work. LBRY is a decentralized marketplace where you can set your own price and keep all your earnings. An LBC is a form of cryptocurrency. It was worth about $0.02 at the time of this writing.

This poem was written on 21 March 2013. Later in 2013, I regretted writing it because the area I was living in was hit by a flood. My car was hit by a wave of water coming across the road in an area that was normally a field. I struggled with PTSD for some time after that incident, feeling that I didn't deserve to write because people had died and I was still alive.

I may be dredging poems out of the archive for a while. My life is still quite a chaotic mess from dealing with cleaning out my old mobile home where I lived for 18 years with severe depression and very little in the way of assistance or compassion from others. I was able to make myself go to work and take my son to school, but not much else. The end results are catastrophic. But life is better now even if it is still stressful, and we would like to get on with the poem, wouldn't we? Let's do that.

Continuity

Trying to get stuff out of a garage-size storage unit by the end of the month when I'm my sole helper until my son has his spring break and can lend a hand really sucks! How did I ever accumulate this much junk?

Updated notes: I address my hoarding issues (and a lot of other crap) in this post if anyone cares to read it.

Always believing him out of her reach
There was a subtle trembling in her speech
Whenever she had something to report
As she daydreamed of being his consort

But dreams become nightmares for foolish girls
He stole a treasure more precious than pearls
Never could she believe he was that man
A cur in an alley grabs what he can

She believed him to be a righteous gent
Quickly from her heart was that belief rent
He was a doctor, she minded his kids
She is left with the guilt from what he did

Her innocence died upon that cold night
There is nothing on Earth can make it right

Notes
If all you wanna see is the poetry, this is is your stop. If you wanna take note of the notes, stick around!

I am very grateful to the folks at the Sunday Muse blog for providing this photo. It turned out to be the push I needed to get out of my stuck place with my WIP, The Ballad of Gerry Clifford.

Lotus is the older sister of the titular character. She was adopted into the large, loving Clifford family when she was six years old. She wrote this sonnet after being molested at twelve years old by the doctor whose children she babysat for.

"Back in my minin' days, I loved ter see a big ole golden moon in the sky whilst lazin' 'round a campfire enjoyin' a swig of whiskey or a few with the fellers. But the thing I loved to see most was a big ole golden nugget down in the mine!"

Cactus Clem Sez:
"One of my most favorite things in all the wide world is takin' a stroll on a spring night with the full moon shinin' down on the Lone Prairie. 'Specially if I got a big ole jug of White Lightnin' to swig on now and again."

Ornery Poetry + Sly Rhymes: The More Things Change (Part 2)

Proving his brain is just itty bitty

NaPoWriMo: Write a review poem of something that doesn't usually get reviewed. Well, it's a review poem anyway. I give this particular subject terrible reviews all the time. Every time I fart, it's a review of what I think of his shitty performance.
